GIMP
Powerful open-source image editor with basic vector capabilities through paths. Great for combining raster and vector elements in graphic design projects.
A free, Photoshop-style image editor in your browser, built for humans and AI agents. Edit with real layers, masks, selections and brushes, and open and save PSD files, with no install or account.
PhotoFresco is the free, browser-based Photoshop alternative for humans and AI agents. Open the page and you are editing: there is no download, no install and no account needed to open, edit and save your work. Editing runs on your own computer's graphics card, and documents are split into tiles so large canvases stay smooth.
What you can do today:
Built for AI agents: every action in the editor (layers, selections, masks, adjustments, text and layer styles) is a structured operation, running through the same commands as the buttons. The agent tools are public and open source (MIT): an MCP server, a command line and an agent skill, also packaged as plugins for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and others. The agent drives a PhotoFresco window on your own computer. You allow the connection, choose which folders it may read and save to, and can pause or stop it at any time. Every move lands in History, so you can undo or refine anything it did. You need Node.js 22 and Chrome, Edge or another Chromium browser; macOS is verified, Windows and Linux are not yet. For now, install from the GitHub repo or release (the npm package is not published yet). The in-app AI assistant is coming soon.
Coming soon: AI image generation that drops results into your document as editable layers, with models compared side by side and costs shown up front.
Who it's for: students and hobbyists who can't justify a Photoshop subscription, shop owners making product and marketing images, designers who need to open and edit PSD files on any computer, and builders who want an image editor their AI agents can drive.
Pricing: the full editor is free forever, not a trial, and is funded by ads. Paid options are coming soon: an ad-free subscription ($8 a month, adds cloud drive storage) and one-time AI credit packs from $9.
