GearDex is a camera gear inventory app for photographers, videographers, and studios, with a free Starter plan for up to 25 items (paid Pro and Studio plans exist for bigger kits and teams). It is a free way to replace the spreadsheet many photographers use to track their gear.
Each item in the gear library can hold its brand and model, serial number, mount, photos, purchase date and price, current market value, condition, storage location, and notes. The library has sections for cameras, lenses, accessories, filters, and drones, and drone records include FAA registration and Remote ID fields. Record Readiness (free) shows which items are missing details such as a photo, serial number, or receipt.
Getting an existing list in takes little effort. Smart Add reads a plain sentence or a photo and turns it into gear records for you to review. CSV import uses templates for each gear type and checks every row before saving. Every plan, including the free one, can export a full account backup as ZIP, JSON, or CSV.
What the free Starter plan includes: up to 25 items, 10 categories, 3 shoot plans, 25 AI actions a week with Iris (the built-in assistant that answers questions about your kit and checks lens mount compatibility), one public Showcase page of your gear, one gear document, and My Kit Snapshot, which makes a shareable image of up to 12 items.
Paid plans: Pro ($39 a year) adds unlimited items, receipts and warranty tracking with expiry alerts, value reports and a one-click insurance PDF, a rig builder with QR labels, full shoot-planning workspaces with a Unified Timeline, Iris Prep Review, and resale listings. Studio ($179 a year) adds loans, maintenance, an Availability Board, team workspaces, and an API with webhooks.
GearDex 3.5 shipped on September 5, 2026. It runs in modern browsers on phones, tablets, and computers, and as a native Mac app for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 13 or later (download at https://geardex.app/download).
