DaVinci Resolve
Professional-grade free video editor with advanced color grading, visual effects, audio post-production, and multi-camera editing capabilities.
Free, open-source video editor for Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. Local captions, voices, cutout and 4K export with no account and no upload.
Concat is a free, open-source video editor for Windows, macOS, Linux and Android, with iOS builds in beta. It is built as a CapCut replacement: the features people open CapCut for are all here, and none of them ask for an account, a subscription or an upload.
Concat edits video on a native Rust engine with a GPU compositor. Multi-track and multi-timeline projects, split and trim and ripple, freeze frames and speed changes, a magnetic timeline you can turn off, blend modes, crop and flips. Exports come out as H.264, HEVC or AV1 at up to 4K 60 in 10-bit colour.
The AI features use models that download once from Settings and then work offline:
Every optional model together is about 3.4GB. Nothing uploads, and nothing needs the network after that first download.
Windows (x64 and ARM64) gets a setup program and an MSI. macOS covers Apple silicon and Intel with a DMG. Linux has AppImage, deb, rpm and Arch packages, plus a Flatpak on the Flatpark remote. Android ships an APK. The builds are not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen needs More info and then Run anyway, and macOS needs the quarantine flag cleared once:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Concat.app
Each release also publishes a SHA256SUMS file next to the binaries.
The API surface is JSON-RPC, gRPC and MCP, with a CLI alongside it. Scripts, services and AI agents can drive an edit end to end, and the transports are documented on the project's developer docs.
Version 0.2.7 shipped on 13 October 2026 under the AGPL-3.0 licence, so the source is open and the copyleft terms travel with it. The repository carries around 6,500 stars, 690 forks and 118 open issues, and the releases have been downloaded about 113,000 times. Sponsorship funds the work. The project is in beta.
The longer piece covers how the local AI models compare with the cloud ones, what the free version replaces on CapCut's paid plans, and the honest list of what beta life still costs you. Concat: the free open-source CapCut alternative.
